How fast does 50 years go?! When we think back to 1976, many of our team were not even born. The window industry was one of kit set windows with 2 colour options, standard sizes and not particularly durable for New Zealand conditions. Moving into the 1980’s there was a shift towards locally made windows providing the ‘made to measure’ versatility that we all know today. Colour options increased and double glazing was introduced. In the 1990’s double glazing became more widely adopted and installation methods improved with an aluminium flashing installed over the top of the window to improve water tightness.
By the 2000’s bifolding and stacking slider doors were available and the popular indoor – outdoor flow was in full swing. Conservatories were also in demand to let people sit outside all year round. In the 2010’s hardware became a focus, with modern styles and digital locks that made family access to homes more convenient.
Now it is all about energy efficiency. How can we keep the heat in in winter and out in summer. Improvements in glass and glazing have assisted in helping customers achieve the energy efficiency values needed to meet the New Zealand building code R value requirements.
Tasman Aluminium has been at the forefront through all of these changes. Adapting and introducing new styles and technologies that make New Zealand windows and doors so dependable and unique. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this amazing journey and we look forward to sharing the next 50 years of windows and doors with you all.
